Viewpoint Mobile

From Fly Pacs to Mobile Units, Viewpoint Can Help!

Regardless of the situation you may find yourself in when covering an event, Viewpoint can help you get the job done. We’ve developed numerous standard definition packages to fit your location needs because we understand the necessity for small but flexible remote facilities. Our reputation has grown throughout the region by setting the standard in remote facilities designed and built by knowledgeable staff, as well as offering well-maintained equipment.

If your event requires a small High Definition Production Truck Viewpoint has you covered. We’ve partnered with other companies in the region and can provide Technical Management of your HD Production backed by the service and attention to detail that Viewpoint is known for.

Our two Fly Pacs -- we began building them in 1995 -- will suit smaller productions. They can easily be transported in a cargo van and set up in a discrete place at your site. On the other hand, if you have a little more room or access to ground level, one of our four mobile units (we built VPS 24 in 1999) may be right up your alley!

If you find yourself dealing with a unique situation, you will be happy to learn that we also design and engineer remote broadcast facilities for specific locations or projects. These systems are designed, built, and tested at Viewpoint, and then deployed into the field. We are able to resolve even the most unusual production requests, such as these:

  • The Sports Beat Package, which was sent to Bradenton, FL for live broadcasting of Pirates Spring Training on FSN Pittsburgh.
  • Control room facilities to cover the Free Care Friends Telethon Show live at Children’s Hospital.
  • Control room facilities for FSN Pittsburgh during the move to their new studios
  • Through a network of cable and microwave transmission, Viewpoint successfully covered an eight-hour Super Bike race at Daytona Motor Speedway. Only five cameras were needed on the 3.5 mile road course.
  • Live surgical -- we’ve covered numerous procedures right in the operating room, transmitting them across the country -- or around the world -- to conferences where doctors were able to interact live with the surgeon.

Upgrades & Modifications

Do you need to modify your system for a special show, add a camera to your studio for a couple days, or use your facilities in such a way that it was not designed for? Viewpoint’s extensively experienced engineering team can help you with that, as well! Here are a few examples of how we’ve improved our customers’ existing facilities by integrating some key pieces of our inventory into them:

  • Post Gazette Pavilion: VPS Designed and built a mobile Unit to switch 3 cameras and 2 tape machines.
  • VPS has also assisted the Post-Gazette Pavilion with distribution of video, audio, and RF to 30+ locations, within the facility.
  • Chevy Amphitheater: Much like the Post Gazette Pavilion, VPS provides a small mobile unit to handle all of the image magnification and signal distribution.
  • Viewpoint assisted KDKA with disaster recovery after a major flood in 2005.
  • Viewpoint is also involved with disaster contingency plans that could restore a station to operation if a disaster prevents them from broadcasting.
  • Niche “ISO Shows,” where the client is planning on posting the project but coverage from multiple cameras is necessary. (ISO recording allows all of your cameras to be recorded at the same time on its own tape in the comfort of the production truck. ISO recording also offers producers and directors the opportunity to monitor and direct all of your production cameras at once.)
  • Pre- and post-game shows for Steelers Football on KDKA
  • Start and finish line coverage of The City of Pittsburgh Marathon for WPXI
  • 1st Avenue coverage of the New York City Marathon for WNBC through NEP.
  • Pool feeds: Viewpoint, through WPXI and the Greensburg Dioceses, provided feeds for KDKA, WTAE, WPGH, and the Pittsburgh Cable News Channel during the installation of Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt.

Trucks…and Crew!

In addition to providing remote television production trucks, you can utilize Viewpoint’s video crew in Pittsburgh or anywhere you may use our production trucks. We also offer Technical Management of your production from facilities and crew to complete “Turn Key” production services that take your project from start to finish. We can handle every aspect of production and hand you a finished project ready for air.
